#REALwomenmove

11 May

As always, I am right on the ball with things!

Last week, my favorite athletic skirt company – SkirtSports – kicked off our #REALwomenmove campaign.

Why?

In the words of SkirtSports founder and CEO Nicole DeBoom – “We are surrounded by messages of intimidation and exclusiveness in the world of fitness. My #REALwomenmove goal is to stop the madness and show women that being fit is something we can all do, regardless of our size, shape or activity level”

And it’s true. I spent the past weekend at the Happiest Place on Earth – running at an event where 87% of the participants were women. And they were women of all ages, shapes, sizes and abilities. And it was awe-inspiring. Everyone putting in their best effort to get something done. And generally it was to get something done for themselves!

So here’s where you get to play along! Share with the community — spread the word! In your social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest) post pictures of what #REALwomenmove means to you, along with the Hashtag of course!! Once we hit 5000 hashtags, someone is gonna win some goodies including the chance to train with Jenny Hadfield for 3 months!!

Now, I know that a lot of my friends participate in one photo-a-day challenge or another…and so we’ve got one for you this week! And, guess what?! That’s right. More prizes! Our friends at FitApproach will be giving away 5 entries to the upcoming Skirts Sports 13er which you can do virtually or in beautiful Louiville, CO. Each entry includes a $125 dollar gift certificate to Skirt Sports too so it’s really a no-lose proposition!

10-Day Be Vibrant Cleanse — Almost Half-Way!!

26 Feb

Well, I am 4 days in on this 10-Day cleanse and I’m kind of amazed that I have made it this far!!

amazed_surprised

I have given up coffee and wine and bread completely for this cleanse. And meat. I haven’t had meat since last week.  And Dairy.

Glass-of-milk-2009

And, it surprises me as much as anyone, that I have lasted this long without yogurt or milk! And coffee.

coffee

Coffee was tough – I developed the oh so familiar caffeine withdrawal headache around 11 am on Monday. And it hung on til sometime Tuesday afternoon! For those who plan ahead, this can be alleviated with some larger doses of Vitamin C — I did not plan THAT well 🙂

This cleanse, which you can find at Live Love Fitness, is really way easier than I thought it would be. As you know I’ve tried to do a #Whole30 in the past and that has never gone terribly well!! Maybe it just took a certain level of frustration with the way my eating habits have gone downhill for something to stick. And I think the timing was just right. When Mary Jane posted in our #SweatPink group that she was looking for people to do this Cleanse and report on it, I jumped all over it!! (Note: MaryJane provided me with free access to the Cleanse in return for my feedback)

So, the food. All whole, unprocessed, and for the most part Vegan (I may be cheating a little on that front…). There is plenty of food. And having a full meal plan + recipes for 10 days gives me no reason/excuse to just eat whatever is in front of me.

The HUGE thing I’ve had driven home is that I tend to be a mindless snacker! I am hoping that once I get a job this will be easier to control – currently when I get bored/antsy, I head into the kitchen and stick something in my mouth. Now, I wander into the kitchen and realize that I’m not actually hungry so I grab some water and move on!

And I mentioned the wine thing right? Well, I learned last night that it is entirely possible to watch Survivor without a glass of wine!!

glass of wine

Thank goodness there is no Scandal this week though!!! That Olivia Pope is a bad influence!!

I know I have 6 days to go. And my plan is to keep on keeping on!!

Hard to believe, the toughest part is the “no strenuous exercise” — and unfortunately so far this week I have stuck to that strictly. I do need to get back to Bikram though, and get some walking miles in on the treadmill. In the long run, I need to be able to integrate the super healthy aspects of the Cleanse with my training and stretching and couch avoidance!! So I’ll start with baby steps and get back in the hot room tonight and back to the gym and hot room tomorrow!

#FuelYourBetter with VegaSport

27 May

*Product was provided by VegaSport for review purposes, all opinions are my own*

Last month, I got a package of a new Sugar-Free pre-workout energy drink mix from our friends at Vega Sport. As a diabetic, I’m always looking for ways to get my energy supplemented without a ton of extra sugar (yeah, I know – sugar=carbs=energy but there have to be better ways to get them in, right?!!)

001

I received the Sugar-free Energizer in Acai Berry Flavor. The directions state to mix with 8 oz of water, but since I’m always wary of tasting new things, I made mine with a bit more — probably 16-20 oz of water.

002

The flavor was pretty good – some reviewers suggested to mix with juice, but since I don’t tend to drink juice that isn’t a workable option for me.  It’s not overly sweetened, which is nice right before heading out, especially now since it’s getting hotter out. I will probably continue to make it with the extra water, just because I prefer more diluted sports beverages no matter what they are.

The one issue I had was that it didn’t seem to dissolve completely – I noticed the first time when I was at the bottom that there were “crumbs” left. The next time I made it I stirred it extra long and there was still some undissolved powder on the top.  I think if I mixed it up in my blender that might resolve that problem!

003

All in all, I’m happy that I have enough of my review package to get me through the early days of my marathon training! It’s also helpful for those hot weekends when I’m working out in the yard!

There are several options to help you #fuelyourbetter – before, during AND after a workout –  at the Vega Sport website! You can also follow Vega on Twitter and Instagram to learn more about all of their vegan fitness products!

Time to Change!!

15 Jan

This is the time of year when people start to rethink and readjust those hard core New Year’s resolutions. Generally it’s easier to do things a step at a time.

For example, if I want to eat healthier instead of saying “I will never eat potato chips or cupcakes again” maybe I’ll say “From now on, I’ll make sure to have breakfast every day”. Which, for me, would be an adjustment because I am a

#VegaOne is helping me start out with #OneChange. Just one simple change in the morning can make your entire day better.

I have been lucky enough to try out the new #VegaOne Chocolate Nutritional Shake Mix — and I just happen to – surprise! – LOVE chocolate!

I have kind of an aversion to most protein shake-type products since they tend to have some kind of grittiness or after taste that really puts me off. So I was a little wary.

#OneChange #VegaOne Chocolate Strawberry Banana Smoothie

Not to worry though! Being a simple girl, I went with a simple smoothie – chocolate shake mix, a frozen banana, some frozen strawberries and some almond milk. YUM! There are also a ton of recipes on the website, in the Recipe Center and this stuff is good for more than just smoothies!

So, no matter your eating style is, #VegaOne can help you start making changes.

And remember, you don’t have to make a bunch of big changes all at once — all it takes to get started is #OneChange

Not Quite Whole30

4 Jun

What is that they say the road to Hell is paved with? Oh yeah…

goodintentions

To be honest, I knew the first few days were not going to be good — not because I don’t want to do this (I do, I really do!) but because I was going to be out of my home and kitchen. I have been on vacation which to my dad means making sure I “eat enough”…and we don’t do a whole lot of cooking. It’s been a round of restaurant eating and beach parties!

On the bright side, I do think I’m at least making better choices when I am out. Mostly. Shared my hot dog(s) with the dog on Saturday, limited buns. Had chicken instead of pasta at lunch on Sunday. I did eat a couple of fries last night. And there was the egg sandwich for lunch yesterday. But I skipped the bread on my BBQ sandwich last night – I’m taking the little wins!

Who knows what today brings but I am constantly thinking about what I can make when I’m back home and start my Whole30 in earnest on Thursday.

No, not this Earnest….
