Goodbye April…

30 Apr

You brought us some freakishly un-Springlike weather (though, not so freakish for New England I guess!) and you’re going out with a rainy/drizzly fizzle up here and some pretty serious storms in other parts of the country.

You brought us the Easter bunny and all those goodies he brings to the little kids!

You also reminded us of the true meaning of Easter.

And, April, you got me back on the road. This was a big month of race registrations for me! After hitting up the Marine Corps Marathon and the Georgia Half Marathon in March I was super excited for registration to open up for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend — this was the biggie and I’ve been looking forward to it now for over a year!

When I ran the Goofy Challenge in 2013 I decided I wanted to do it again in 2015 for the 10th Anniversary.

Then runDisney went and did something CRAZY!!! They created a new challenge – called, probably pretty appropriately, the Dopey Challenge (5K on Thursday, 10K on Friday, Half Marathon on Saturday and the Full Marathon on Sunday for a total of 48.6 miles!) so of course….I got registered for that!

In April I also entered a lottery to get the opportunity to register for the Paris Marathon (that’s Paris France ya’ll…not one of the imposter Parises) and I got in! So *next* April I plan to travel to the City of Lights and take a 26.2 mile tour!

All this means that April was also the start of some SERIOUS training – and I am counting on you all to help keep me accountable! Cause….lots of miles people!!

So…let’s bid Adieu to April (see, workin’ on that French thing already!) and start getting excited about what May has in store!!

I’m not big on spending money — I mean, I spent a lot this year doing all of the runDisney events but that is highly irregular for me!

So, when I was at the Tower of Terror expo and stopped by the Fond Memories Graphics booth, I was “just looking”. But then….

Fast Forward to this past Thursday. I had gone to Five Guys for a birthday dinner hot dog and didn’t realize until Friday morning that I had gotten a package while I was gone:

I love packages of any kind! Big and little!!

And it was from FMG!

IMAG1354

I know what this is!!!

There was lots of bubble wrap and peanuts so you KNOW it was gonna be good!

IMAG1355

Excellent! Now I have packaging materials for Christmas cookie mailing!!

And then extra wrapping!

IMAG1356

Oh…it’s even pretty through the plastic!!

Voila!!

I had figured that it was very likely that I would never again run Goofy AND Dumbo in the same year again so I should celebrate the accomplishment!!

Now to find a place for it on the wall in the basement!

To runDisney or not to runDisney…

One of the perks of running Disney? The celebrities!!!

Of course, the answer is always — definitely!! If you have a chance you really need to runDisney!

So far this year I’ve run in 4 of 7 events and plan to run in the other 3.  I had decided a few years ago the for the year of my 50th birthday I should do something *big* — like complete one of a whole series of running events. I initially planned to run the Rock n Roll series, but at that time they only had something like 9 or 10 events. Now, well, just too many for me to feasibly do in a year. Around the same time, I discovered runDisney and ran in the Princess Half Marathon – what fun!!

Then, a couple of years later, I was going to be at Walt Disney World with my brother and his family and it just so happened that our departure day was the day of the WDW Half (The Donald!) so I figured “hell, I’m gonna be there anyway…” and registered.  About a week after finishing I started thinking “this Goofy thing would be a lot of fun”!

For those who don’t follow such things, The Goofy Challenge takes place over WDW Marathon weekend and entails running the half marathon on Saturday followed by the full marathon on Sunday. Easy peasy right?!! hahaha

WDW Marathon Weekend

My Marathon Weekend Bling! 5K, Half, Full and the coveted Goofy!!

So, when registration opened I jumped right on it! I was in for the Goofy Challenge in 2013. And for the Tinkerbell Half. And for the Princess Half. And for the Expedition Everest Challenge. … and now I’m registered for the remaining runDisney events in 2013

And I’m already thinking about doing the new “Dopey” (Goofy Challenge plus a 5K and a 10K – 4 races in 4 days!!)  in 2015. This coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Goofy which means some serious bling!!

All Da Bling!

Soon these will ALL be Mine!!! Bwahahahah!!
