Ready to get Dopey?

5 Jan

dopey15

Well, it’s finally here!! Almost!

And, as you can imagine, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about packing 🙂 I’ve also been working on one of the most important aspects of any runDisney event – “What am I going to WEAR??”

4 races means 4 outfits, possibly even costumes! There are always a few things I keep in mind – most important is comfort, especially for longer runs (that would be the half and full on Saturday and Sunday!). In Florida, the weather is also a big consideration so eyes are on the forecast as early as possible – though, in Florida, the weather can change overnight!

And, when I’m in Florida, I’m all about the sun so I also try to avoid getting a farmer’s tan since I know I’m going to be out there in the middle of the day (thank you Corral O)

5K is pretty easy since it’s not so much a costume run for me, but wearing my team skirt. Also, since it’s early I don’t have the above mentioned tanning issue and can wear really any top I want – I might even be wearing a jacket this year since it’ll be “chilly” on Thursday and we won’t be out long enough for warming up much!

10K looks to be a little chilly as well, so I am bringing two options for tops – my wonderful friend Angela is making the letters for my shirt – so this is an incomplete, more of a Disney Bound costume, and I may wear the cami or I may wear the tshirt. But I am definitely wearing the wig!!

Looking at this now, I might switch to a purple skirt…

For the half, I’ll be dressed as my favorite bear!

And the Full. This is quite possibly my most ambitious costume attempt to date!  I decided long ago that I wanted to do a race as Jessie.

Initially I tried to find a top online – by the time I justified the cost to myself (it was a LOT!) the seller was taking a break. So I figured “How hard can it be to just paint a shirt myself?” Well…so far so good. Ish.

Then when I was at the store buying my crafting supplies I saw that yarn was on sale..so my brain said “How hard can it be to make a yarn braid?” The answer to that is “No too hard, so far, but how are you going to attach it to your head?”…So, we’ll see! And of course I have to have her cuffs right? Again “How hard can that be?” We don’t know…yet!

Hopefully I’ll have this finished in time to pack it Tuesday night — or maybe as I’m rushing out the door Wednesday morning 🙂

I can’t wait to see what the finished product looks like!! If nothing else, it’s been fun!

Time for you to share your running costume ideas with me!!  And hey, now that you know what I’ll be wearing, if you’re on the course(s) or cheering on the sidelines, give me a shout!!

New-ish Month, New Challenges

5 Jun

So we’re now into June and summer seems to really be coming in with no hesitation!!

That means, running needs to be done pretty darn early! And, of course this is when I really need to kick my training into gear — time is ticking away and I know that the Marine Corps Marathon will be here before I know it! Followed way too closely by my #Dopey15 runDisney challenge…and even more.

I do have a couple of race recaps and vacations to recap this weekend so I can be caught up too!

But, first, ya’ll know I was doing a couple of DietBets last month and I managed to squeak by and win them both (with a pound or two to spare). I turned around and put the winnings from my first win (don’t know what I won from the second yet!) into 2 more for this month!

And I have to tell you people….it was a little more stressful than I thought it would be but those last couple of days were definitely motivation to keep it going more consistently this time around.

In case you’re interested, you can sign up here for the “small” DB  http://diet.bt/1p6dG8q

And here for the BIG game! http://diet.bt/1p6elHd

Seriously, if you’re signing up for one, you may as well sign up for two. I mean, you only increase your chance of winning right? And definitely let Patty know that I sent you!! 😉

And I’m also repeating my wall sit/plank/arm challenge from May since I fell off of that wagon around the 23rd…and I can say that I’m good for 5 days!!

And, important culture note: Tomorrow is National Donut Day — so head out and get some round goodness in your belly! A group of my friends have organized a virtual “Donut Run” — so I’ll head to my local Dunkin Donuts in the morning (before the dentist of course!) on foot, and grab some nom and run back home!

Goodbye April…

30 Apr

sugarandspiceandeverythingnice dot com

You brought us some freakishly un-Springlike weather (though, not so freakish for New England I guess!) and you’re going out with a rainy/drizzly fizzle up here and some pretty serious storms in other parts of the country.

You brought us the Easter bunny and all those goodies he brings to the little kids!

You also reminded us of the true meaning of Easter.

And, April, you got me back on the road. This was a big month of race registrations for me! After hitting up the Marine Corps Marathon and the Georgia Half Marathon in March I was super excited for registration to open up for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend — this was the biggie and I’ve been looking forward to it now for over a year!

When I ran the Goofy Challenge in 2013 I decided I wanted to do it again in 2015 for the 10th Anniversary.

Me and our host back in 2013

Then runDisney went and did something CRAZY!!! They created a new challenge – called, probably pretty appropriately, the Dopey Challenge (5K on Thursday, 10K on Friday, Half Marathon on Saturday and the Full Marathon on Sunday for a total of 48.6 miles!) so of course….I got registered for that!

In April I also entered a lottery to get the opportunity to register for the Paris Marathon (that’s Paris France ya’ll…not one of the imposter Parises) and I got in! So *next* April I plan to travel to the City of Lights and take a 26.2 mile tour!

All this means that April was also the start of some SERIOUS training – and I am counting on you all to help keep me accountable! Cause….lots of miles people!!

So…let’s bid Adieu to April (see, workin’ on that French thing already!) and start getting excited about what May has in store!!

Planning…Always Planning…

13 Apr

Hoping that I am able to put this weekend’s aches and pains behind me this week so that I can get on with gettin’ on!!

All true! Borrowed from http://www.runningrachel.com

Part of why I wanted to start blogging was to 1. Record my 2013 runDisney adventure (which, it’s coming…really it is!!) and B. to have some accountability working towards my training/healthy eating goals. I figure if I put it out there, and a few people see it, then I can’t keep coming back on Saturday night with all the reasons why I sat on my butt all week or ate that bag of jelly beans/box of cookies (which, I wouldn’t do, but there *is* some junk eating happening every now and then!)

So starting with this week, I’ll be posting my weekly workout plans/goals in the hope that throwing it out there will make it more embarrassing to skip when I plan to report out on Monday morning!

**Goals for this week**

Resume Plank Challenge with         plank

Day 10 (4 sets of 45 second planks)
Day 11 (3 sets of 60 second planks)
Day 12 (4 sets of 45 second planks)
Day 13 (3 sets of 60 second planks)
Day 14 (4 sets of 45 second planks)
Day 15 (3 sets of 60 second planks)
Day 16 – happily a rest day!!

Resume Wall Sit Challenge with                 wall sit

Day 10 (100 seconds)
Day 11 (110 seconds)
Day 12 (120 seconds)
Day 13 (130 seconds)
Day 14 (140 seconds)
Day 15 (150 seconds)
Day 16 (160 seconds)

Get on my running plan

Tuesday – 2 Miles
Wednesday – 2 Miles
Thursday – 2 MIles
Saturday – 5 Miles
Sunday – 5 Miles

I am committed to not only running the Marine Corps Marathon in October and the Dopey Challenge in January, but I am committed to enjoying myself and finishing STRONG. And it’s going to take a lot of work to get there. So I need to resolve these issues with my leg(s) and get going!

Otherwise, the chances of me becoming one with my couch are far too great!!
