So. It’s April :)

april

And that means time for some new and improved goals/resolutions!!  Let’s see how well I do this time around!!

Things started out great when the mailman came bright and early and brought me my new SkirtSports loot!!  Two new skirts, a tank and a new grown-up running bra! I can’t wait to wear my new Gym Girl Ultra for Saturday’s Greater Hartford Quarter Marathon!!

Better pictures soon!!

Sunday is Easter, of course, and I’m hoping to head to NYC to spend a bit of time with my cousin from Minnesota!

And there’s that packing thing that I’ve started…

010

Oh. And taxes? Yeah. Should probably finish those before I leave the country!!

And now for the goals.

goals are dreams

Since I haven’t been terribly successful the last couple of months, I’m aiming low. I need the feeling I’ll get from actually accomplishing what I set out to do!! Plus I’ll be starting that new job (FINALLY!!) and need to figure out my schedule!

And so I bring you Anne’s April Goals:

  • Running – I set my monthly mileage goal pretty low, and definitely attainable – 35 miles. Yeah. Kind of a cop out but … that’s that. Also a running goal – to finish the Paris Marathon while there is still support on the course!! The course limit is between 5:40 and 6:00 depending on what I look at. My PR is 6:18. The only solace I can give myself is that the 6:18 was done with VERY very little training. So. We shall see!! If nothing else, it will be a gorgeous tour through Paris!!
  • Organization – I did a pretty decent job in March of getting my office cleared out. Some. There’s still a bit to go so I’ll be finishing that up this month. As well as getting my basement a little more organized so it can return to a more relaxing kind of place!
  • Other Fitness – again, as every month, I want to be much more consistent with my Bikram practice. At least 3 days a week is not unreasonable at all!! Especially with such a low mileage goal.
  • Insulin Pumping/Health – I should hopefully get this figured out and stable by the end of the month! It’s a never ending adventure though!

I figure this is all very do-able – and I should see much success in a few weeks and head into the summer ready to start training for the Marine Corps Marathon!!

Flashback to Beating the Bridge in 2014!!

But before any of this…I have some packing to do and some Francais to be parlez-ing 🙂 And a little matter of my Third 26.2 in 6 months!

There was a half marathon this week.  It was not pretty. I mean, the course was gorgeous, my results, not so much.

So let’s get to the training wrap-up:

The Higdon plan was:
Tuesday – 3 miles
Wednesday – 5 miles
Thursday – 3 miles
Saturday – 4 miles
Sunday – 14 miles

What Anne managed to do is:
Tuesday – 3.5 miles ( had to circle my cul de sac a few times to even things up!)
Wednesday – 5.08 miles – I decided to take the time in the middle of the day to get it in since I also had to get the lawn mowed and my hair cut Wednesday night!
Thursday – walked about 2.5. Not really counting this as “done” since…well, it wasn’t 3 and I walked 🙂 But I got out there!! In the rain.
Saturday – Hogsback Half Marathon. Map My Run says I did 15.7 miles but…it was probably closer  to 13.1 😉
Sunday – decided to baby my foot (see yesterday’s recap) and did not do my 4 miles. I’m not beating myself up over that. Too much. 🙂

Now, on to this coming week! It’s a biggie since I’m heading down to Orlando to cheer on my friends in runDisney Tower of Terror 10 Miler!  That’s right, a trip to Disney and I’m *NOT* running!! Well…I’ll run…but no bling for me!! 😉

The Higdon plan for the week is:
Tuesday – 3 miles
Wednesday – 6 miles (oh no! we’re stepping things up!!)
Thursday – 3 miles
Saturday – 8 miles

The mileage is just going to keep going up until December or so…

just run

This week I will also stop by Middletown Bikram to sign up for a year or two – and start back up when I’m back in town!!  Can’t wait!!

Is there a workout that you really look forward to? Bikram is that workout for me!!

Procrastination Pays Off!!!

29 Aug

Okay, so I generally don’t advise putting things off – not everyone works as well under pressure as I do!  And plus, I’m sure I’ve mentioned before that I can be kind of …um…lazy.

So, remember when I was going to jump back into Bikram yoga as part of my #Dopey15 training? And then, I don’t know if I told ya’ll, but my local Bikram studio closed at the end of July. Like 2 days before I was going to go in and hand over my big bucks for another year.

The next closest studio is a bit of a drive away, but I was going to go ahead and join up there for a year. I put it off long enough that I was going to go in the Monday after I get back from my current Texas trip.

Well. Wouldn’t you just know that 2 days before I headed down here I saw *this* on my Facebook Feed:

Happy Days are here!!!

Excitement galore right?!! And, I can do TWO years for less than one and…oh..wait. Oct 4? That’s when I’ll be down at Walt Disney World hanging out with my friends who are running Tower of Terror this year. (It will also be Phred’s first visit to Phlorida!) I emailed and they assured me that I could register before I left so again! Yay!!

034

After I emailed, I got this mass mailing from them!!!

I’m really happy to be able to get back on this particular horse! And, to warm up, I’m *still* going to sign up for the other studio “10 days for 20 dollars” introductory special when I get home!

And with that wonderful news — I wish you all a GREAT long weekend (if you’re in the US and actually have a long weekend!)

Thankful Thursday — on Friday!

thank-you-quote2

It’s no longer Thursday….but I’m still thankful!!

Went back to Bikram tonight after quite a long break – I really needed it, physically and mentally.

I’m thankful that my body still knew what to do, even if it couldn’t do it so well. Thankful for the teacher who made the class fun. Well, as fun as 90 minutes in 104 degrees can be! And I’m thankful that the studio is a short walk from the office and I was able to purchase a package that will give me access to the classes for my last 2 weeks at work for the price of one class!

**Note people – if you’re gonna try Bikram, even if you think you might only make it to one or two classes, look at the introductory packages! You’ll save a bit of coinage!! **

Hope you found something in your day yesterday to be thankful for!

A Day of Love

25 Aug

Well this was definitely a mixed bag weekend – mostly good though!

Friday I introduced my friend Kathy to #Bikram and she says she enjoyed it! Them spent the night at her house, met her new puppy and her husband cooked a great dinner (and breakfast)

001

Best part of the weekend was Saturday’s Ray Lang Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit The Tug McGraw Foundation. My friend Pete and his family put on this event every year in memory of his dad. I’ve met some really great people through my running with Team McGraw and a LOT of them are Pete’s family!! They’re such an amazing, loving and welcoming group of people. I’m not a golfer but I love hanging out with the other non-golfers! Play is followed by dinner and a raffle – this is really the only time I win good stuff! This year I was hoping for the “chair” – another outdoor chair for relaxing in the backyard. I was also really interested in the package of Hostess goodies! I threw my tickets into a few other bags as well.

014

013

But I REALLY wanted the chair!

And guess what I didn’t get. Right, I didn’t get the Hostess goodies.     012 But I did get the chair!! Woot! Yay me!! It’s a really nice one – including a cup holder that I will eventually figure out!

015

I also picked up this little handbag.    016

But really the best part of the day is catching up with friends I haven’t seen in awhile. And, it was great to be surrounded by so much love, especially yesterday.

Four years ago yesterday, my big brother called me to tell me that my mom had died. And it’s probably no exaggeration to say that I have missed her so much every single day since then. But for some reason, this year has been particularly tough. Overall, I think I’ve been much happier and content the last several months than I have in a long time. But there’s always something missing. Sometimes you just need a hug from your mom.
