Snap Out of It!!!

10 Oct

Okay, I’m doing my week 15 #Dopey15 recap a couple of days early because, well, it’s ugly ya’ll….

I kind of had an “excuse” last week, what with being at Disney and all…so what is my excuse this week?

Ain’t got one! Not at all.

And it’s bad folks! I have 3 events in the next 3 weeks. The problem isn’t that I don’t think I’ll finish. I know I can do the miles. But…I had higher hopes for myself.

So let’s get to it:

The Higdon plan for the week was:
Tuesday – 3 miles
Wednesday – 6 miles
Thursday – 3 miles
Saturday – 5 miles
Sunday – 15 miles

Let’s see where I am with 3 days left in the week:
Tuesday  – did not do my 3. Did not go to Bikram. Why? Tired? Recovering from vacation?
Wednesday – Didn’t want to, but did 6.2!! Yay!! A 10K!
Thursday – Um…again…nothing

Here we are at Friday – I am registered for a 1 mile run this evening. A shake out event for tomorrow’s Hartford NU Marathon/Half Marathon. And since I have to go into Hartford to pick up my packet I’m actually going to do this! And depending on how my work day goes, I might break out mid-day to get one of my missed runs in.

Tomorrow is the Hartford Half Marathon – and let me tell you something. It’s supposed to be rainy in the morning. And chilly. And I can guarantee that if I weren’t registered for the event I’d fight with myself all morning to get out and run. So I’ll get 13 in tomorrow for sure.

Sunday’s 5 should turn into 7, so I can get the more missing miles in…

There you have it. There will be recaps forthcoming – of the Half tomorrow and of my trip to Disney LAST weekend!

And, my Friday advice to you? Don’t be like me 🙂 Do your training!

We’ll get to next week’s plan on Sunday!

Sunday Funday!

8 Jun

Or, maybe I should say “Sunday, Lazy Day” but that doesn’t rhyme so it isn’t as fun, right?!

Sunday-Funday

Got in a short run this morning, even after I ‘overslept’ (til 7). Hoping to get in another this evening if it cools off/clouds up a bit! Not sure why the heat is bothering me so much already…I’m thinking a week in Texas should cure me of that pretty darn fast!!

Spent the last couple of days doing some cleaning around the house. I *hate* coming home to a mess so this will make me feel really good! Especially since I’m coming back to start my annual (6th year this year!) volunteer stint at the Traveler’s Championship golf tournament – I signed up for 4 afternoons which is going to keep me super busy!!  But it really is so much fun and the time just flies by! And, I’ve never been on the final, championship day so that’s going to be a new interesting experience!

But I am getting WAY ahead of myself here!! If you’ve been paying attention, you might know that I don’t do a lot of packing in advance but it is definitely on my “to do” list for today!! Goal? Get it all done tonight! Let’s see what happens.

I also want to take a little bit of time to relax in my new hammock! Though I’ve already done an awful lot of resting this weekend in between bursts of cleaning energy 🙂

A Case of the Blahs?

27 May

So, I haven’t updated my progress in awhile — and there’s a lot going on! But I just haven’t been able to make myself sit still and focus for the last couple of weeks!

First things first, today my sister is having her second chemotherapy treatment. She seems to have gotten through the first with minimal trouble, though she did start losing her hair last week. I sent her a little care package that hopefully will help a little, and I’m going down in a couple of weeks to visit.

I have one more week in my No Guilt No Gut Diet Bet and 2 pounds to meet my goal and – at the very least – get my money back! Which I will then turn around and drop into the next TWO No Guilt No Gut Diet Bets!! As I always say, money is a great motivator!!

My May Fitness challenge (the plank/wall sit/arm workout) was smokin’ along…then I got up one morning and put on some grown up clothes and went to the office…and got out of my groove. I can still catch up, I have a few days, but it’s gonna hurt!!

I also took 2 weeks off of running (after doing a 5K early in the month). A visit to my doctor to try to short-circuit another possible episode of sciatica persuaded me that this was the best approach to take. Got back on the road this weekend and managed to get in 4. Hoping for another 3 this afternoon – definitely taking it slow though, it’s a long way to Marine  Corps and Dopey…and Paris!

Mr. Earnest Phred at about 8 weeks old

Everything else is pretty status quo around here. My dog turned 9 years old last Friday and got to enjoy a burger or two and maybe he had some grilled chicken yesterday… it’s hard to believe he’s already 9. Time flies!

And, I just want to post a reminder that my super special “Get a Bracelet” offer for folks donating 25 dollars or more to my Marine Corps Marathon fundraising effort ends on Saturday!! I’m loving my mudLove bracelets!! You’ll love one too!!

007

So I think I’m ready to snap out of whatever this mood has been! Look for a couple of race recaps (one old, one coming up this weekend!) and a continuation of my effort to win all my DietBet money and get through my upcoming 3 marathons (plus multiple half marathons!)

Have a great week!!

A Special mudLOVE Edition of Fundraising Friday

2 May

Friday1

When I was at the Princess Half Marathon, I attended a couple of meetups. One of them was set up by my pals Meg (over at Runaway Royalty) and Kristy (at Kristy Runs Kato). One of the *many* give aways was from a great company called MudLOVE.

008

I did not win one of the bands — but I was intrigued for sure!!

So after a couple of months I finally dug in and hit the website and bought. A few. It’s really hard to stop since they’re really quite reasonably priced. Plus, 20% of each purchase goes to help support clean drinking water projects in Africa – so you get a cute bracelet and you help others!

006

I got one for my sister as well as she’s going to begin chemotherapy and radiation in the next couple of weeks – and purple is her favorite color

009

And then I thought, hmmm….why don’t I offer folks an opportunity to have their own!

So, for the month of May, anyone who makes a donation of $25 or more will receive a mudLOVE band of their own. Unless you have a different preference, I will send you the “BELIEVE” band, in red, as the motto for Team McGraw is “Ya Gotta Believe!”

007

It’s really VERY VERY easy! Click here and help a sister out!! Tax deductible AND a neat  bracelet! And you’ll be helping me on my way to my goal! And it’s a pretty worthwhile goal if you ask me!!

At the finish line of my last Marine Corps Marathon!!

Have a great Friday and remember to do something nice for someone today!!
