Week 8…We Knew Ye Well

24 Aug

So, summer is flying by right?

summer end

Which means that fall race season is rapidly approaching!!  And after fall race season — yeah, you know it!!! #Dopey15 (seriously this needs to catch on, ya’ll help a girl out!!)

dopey15

So, on with the recap — it’s gonna be short so we can all get to bed! I think a lot of parents have kids starting school tomorrow or later this week. And a lot of people have to go to work!!

The Galloway plan for the week called for

Tuesday 45 minute run/walk
Thursday 45 minute run/walk
Saturday 9 miles

Yeah. 9!! That means we’re 2 weeks from double digits ya’ll!!

So here’s what happened:

Tuesday: Yeah. I did it! 3.2 miles cause I ended up walking the first 10 minutes but it got done!
Thursday: What?! Yes. 45 minutes and 3.5 miles. Though I’m annoyed at myself because when I got in from my run I realized I had missed out on the final Hartford Marathon Foundation Xtreme Scramble of the summer <sad face>
Saturday: I was heading out to my run and got a message from a friend that she was going to need a lift to a golf tournament we were going to so I headed in and got dressed, knowing that I’d be doing a 10K Sunday. Got home around 11:30 and as usual didn’t get to sleep til around 1 and naturally didn’t set my alarm. Which means my second missed run of the week. BUUUUT…that meant I could do my full 9! Or, could I? Poor planning, bad hydration and nutrition and starting mid-day led me to cutting my run short. So. 8 in today. PS Middletown CT – where you can run uphill for 3 miles and never head downhill…what’s up with that!!

Rewarded myself with a cool bath and an Italian ice after rehydrating and getting some protein in my system.

Looking forward to this week — plan to really hit it!! And heading to my dad’s on Thursday which means a hot humid 3 on Saturday!! It’s just part of the “training to run in Orlando” plan!!

So have a great Sunday evening and hopefully everyone is ready for the excitement of going back to school!!

PS — I know lots of folks are getting all wet and all for ALS (and donating too–don’t forget that!!) but if your heart leans in another direction have a look here and maybe drop me a couple of bucks!! 😉

Week 7 Comes to an End…

17 Aug

Brown paper package with torn section

And, I’m getting some of my mojo back.

The Galloway plan for the week called for

Tuesday 45 minute run/walk
Thursday 45 minute run/walk
Saturday 3 miles

What actually happened was…

Tuesday – I did my 45 minutes on Wednesday (yay!) 3 miles
Thursday – Headed out and took my big loop which is 3.5 miles. Walked for the first 8 minutes or so then intervals kicked in (1:1) – so a bit more than 45 minutes
Saturday – I had planned to get up early, run and head to NYC for the day. What happened was, I got up early, sat down with coffee and decided to hang around and get yard work done. So my 3 miles was done Sunday evening

My hope is to pick up more miles this week. You know, play a little catch up. Next Saturday is a 9 miler and I have a 10K on Sunday so it’ll be a good big week!! And pretty soon I’ll make the decision on whether or not to move from Galloway to Higdon for training. Hal starts out big so we’ll see!!

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend and lots of great things to look forward to this week!

monday good

Sunday Funday!!

27 Oct

I do love the weekends! Especially in the Fall – everything seems a little easier.

Spent most of Saturday hanging out with my dog, Phred. A little laundry, a little guest room bed-making, a lot of thinking about getting a lot done! I did manage to make some headway on a craft project I am pulling together for Wine and Dine weekend

008

On Sunday, I hit the ground running! Literally 🙂 It seems like all of my pains are definitely going away so I wasn’t terribly concerned about my 5K, The Pumpkin Run, this morning..or rather, this afternoon! A 1 pm start meant I could get some things done BEFORE the run and then come home and putter.

I overestimated my lack of pain, however, so it was a slow 3.1. But I got it done! The weather was beautiful, clear blue skies and the trees are still in the last stages of changing and losing leaves. Lots of folks in costumes so there is definitely some Halloween spirit(s) in the air!!

Before the race, I hit up Target – using their new Cartwheel app on my phone I saved a buck and change. Once I figure it out I am hoping the savings will add up!! Had to get laundry supplies and got some percentage off of those items so Yay! Also got some supplies for making macaroni and cheese in the crockpot! I made this last winter and it is really, surprisingly good! Made the mac and cheese and stuck it in a dish to do the final hour of cooking with melty cheese and crunchy potato chips on top. Tomorrow is gonna be SWELL!!

006

Yeah, it doesn’t look like much here…but just you wait!

013

Tomorrow, this will be all brown and bubbly on top!!

Then, since I was apparently in some kind of nesting mood, I baked up my mom’s Apple Cake. I used to bake this ALL THE TIME when I was growing up and when I found the recipe again and made it the first time again, it really brought back some great memories. I don’t know why, but I added some glaze to it this time – it’s nice, but really not necessary at all!

009

Before the oven….

011

And after. With some lumpy glaze. NOMS!!

THEN…I had some thawed chicken breasts and had figured I’d just throw them in the oven and bake them but then was struck with the desire to make chicken piccata –which I have NEVER made before but I just love! Turned out pretty amazing if I say so myself! Cooked up some noodles and broccoli and had an actual proper dinner tonight!

010

I may always saute chicken from now on…even without the sauce it was pretty tasty!! Butter does that!

012

Full of lemon-y caper-y goodness!!

014

A grown-up dinner. It happens every now and then!

So, if you know me – and even if you know me you might not know this – Useless Fact #23432: I don’t like when my house smells like food. I don’t care what kind of food, unless it’s baked goods made with lots of butter – that smell I don’t mind! So, I needed to do something to clear out the chicken smell.

Since I had some leftover pumpkin in the fridge to use up I whipped up a batch of really great pumpkin cookies. Another something that I used to bake all the time growing up. Me and mom would bake hundreds of these it seemed! Her original recipe calls for dates but I could never get into that, so I use raisins!!

015

Fluffy sweet cookie batter

016

Finished and frosted. Most of them anyway…ran out of frosting!

Now, who’s hungry? 🙂

Monday Eve

25 Aug

hd_happy_sunday_wallpaper-2098711a00aa9aa39b0949f2dcd9c7f4

Not the Sunday I had planned…

Woke up late and missed my 10K this morning (that I’m now even not sure I was registered for!) but was ready to take on the day and Get. Things. Done!!

I got coffee done. Piece of cake! I sat on the couch to enjoy my first cup of coffee and when I stood up was really, honestly, unable to stand upright. REALLY?? Really body? THIS is how you pay me for taking you out this weekend??

Fortunately I had some muscle relaxers from my foot left over and took one. Which …didn’t help a whole lot AT ALL. But I did realize that if I kept moving (and not bending or lifting anything too heavy) things would loosen up and I’d feel fine.

So, needless to say, I did not accomplish nearly as much as I’d hoped today on the cleaning/packing/trip-prep front.

But I had a nice movie night and got a great present so it wasn’t a complete washout!

Now, it’s time to think about heading back into the office tomorrow and I DON’T WANNA GO!!!! Really I don’t. I don’t want to train my replacement, I don’t want to go to the office. I want my back to feel better (on account of that whole half marathon next weekend thingie I have going on!) and, if it does, I’ll go in. But having it not working right gives me a built in excuse to not drive in.

We’ll see…

Are you a Monday person? Are you super excited to see what adventure lies ahead this week?

Sunday, Sunday

18 Aug

sunday clouds

I love Sunday. Not really because it’s Monday-Eve so much, but just all by itself!

Most of the time, it’s a day to do things around the house – for me that usually means it’s a day to mow the lawn! Which I love doing, so that’s not bad at all!

003

Today is really no different. I have an 11 mile training run to get in first thing though, before doing anything else.

And, there’s the grocery shopping and the meal and workout planning for the week and the ironing for the week and the general overall getting ready for the week.

And when it’s all over there’s the hot shower, the clean jammies and maybe a glass of wine before bed.

In two weeks, I’ll be working my way through the #DumboDoubleDare (or, as I’ve grown to love calling it the #DumboDoubleDate – thank you typos!) The Disneyland Half Marathon weekend this year introduces a 10 K on Saturday and a Half Marathon on Sunday! I’m starting to hit the peak of anticipatory excitement – this week will be spent beginning to pack and I can’t wait!

But first — I have some grass to cut and some miles to cover!!
