One Step Forward, Two Back

20 Feb

stitched with intentionsAs ya’ll have figured out by now, I am chock-full of good intentions. I wake up on Monday pretty motivated and ready to really tackle my training plan for the week!

Well….

For whatever reason, I am finding it REALLY difficult to get my Tuesday runs in on Tuesday …. I could understand if it was Monday since I’m pretty wiped out when I get home from work on Monday. But. Tuesday??

Anyway. Wrap up time!

This week the plan wanted me to run a total of 34 Miles. I did not run 34 Miles…

Tuesday – 5 Miles – As mentioned above…Tuesdays are hard for me. So I did not run on Tuesday
Wednesday – 8 Miles – Today I did yesterday’s 5 Miles on a treamill…
Thursday – 5 Miles –
Yesterday’s 8. Also on a treadmill.
Saturday – 11 Miles (yikes!) –
Thursday’s 5. Outside – it was a gorgeous weekend!
Sunday – 5 Miles –
Pretty much sat on my butt watching  a Showtime and HBO free preview weekend…All. Day. (Who knew there were so many movies I *had* to see?!!)

chill-cat

Me on Sunday. Only no beer and chips. But all me!!

Only 2 weeks now until my first Half Marathon of the year – Myrtle Beach Half Marathon. And here’s what we’ve got planned.

Tuesday – 5 Miles
Wednesday – 6 Miles
Thursday – 4 Miles
Saturday – 12 Miles (I really need to do at least something long this month!)
Sunday – 3 Miles (this must be what they mean by ‘taper’!)

Pretty reasonable numbers, right? We’ll see what happens!!

And some exciting news coming up REAL soon from Skirt Sports (affiliate link)!

Back for Another Year!

10 Feb

AmbassadorStamp

I am, of course, late with this but…I am THRILLED to let you know that I was chosen again to be part of the Skirt Sports Ambassador Team as an Ambassador Captain for the third year!!

IMG_1084

This was taken after last year’s 13er – in the fountain at the CU UMC – one of my college goals was to “jump in the fountain” after finals. I never made it them, but look at me now!!!!

I’m really looking forward to it – this is such an awesome group of women from all walks of life, involved in all kinds of different healthy stuff!  Nicole DeBoom started a company to make women athletes feel amazing no matter what level of fitness they are at and no matter what size they are. It’s a brand for Every Woman. For Real Women. The models on the site? Most of them are Ambassadors or work for the company – they aren’t actually professional models!

retreat

Ambassadors at last year’s retreat outside of Boulder

The aim of the company is to help every woman realize her potential. Through the Running Start program women are given the chance to overcome obstacles and start on the road to fitness  – training culminates in their running the 5k at the Skirt Sports 13er in June in Boulder Colorado

But it isn’t just that. Whether you’re an elite athlete or a back-of-the-packer (my peeps!) you can find your tribe over at Skirt Sports. And I’m telling ya’ll…the love is real! I’ve made some great friends and even got to meet one of my blogging idols last year (I’m looking it you Jenn from Scootadoot!)

Founder Nicole DeBoom has a podcast that is fantastic – Women Run the World. Look for it where you find your podcasts 🙂 She’s always talking with someone interesting and you’ll definitely learn something!

So, apart for getting to rep an amazing company I love, what’s in it for me? Well, I do get a pretty good discount on the clothes and with each new release of styles and patterns I get a gift certificate to spend. And I get to share with you, my friends, a 20% discount on nearly Every. Thing on the site (or in the store!) – use code 1SSCAPT20. This won’t work on clearance items, and it will expire on March 31 or sooner if we get personal codes before then! But, you will always get a new code!!

And, as an affiliate, if you click a Skirt Sports link in my blog, I get a few pennies from your purchase. If you don’t buy, I don’t get the pennies.

But, really. If you want to find some comfy clothes, either for running or hiking or some crazy Ultra running or triathlon thing, you should have a look! Give it a try…you’e got nothing to lose and an awesome tribe to gain!!

Spring Is In The Air!!

12 Jan

But seriously…..

I’m sitting warm and dry inside while the second snow of the season falls.

big snow

Of course this snow showed up AFTER my nephews went back to Texas…back in 2011.

This is not it…not even close. Much to my dismay….

And I’m doing a little online Window(s) shopping…see what I did there? 🙂

This morning the launch of the new Spring line of Skirt Sports kicked off with the introduction of what might become one of my OTHER favorite patterns….Ladies (and gentlemen) I present for your viewing pleasure, Free Love

Free Love

Free Love…in one of my favorite styles…the Gym Girl Ultra!!!

Like Tantrum before it, Free Love just might become your go-to pattern — lots of possibilities for matching. Or not matching if you’re anything like me!

Over the next couple of months we’ll be introducing some new styles as well as some more new patterns! And I for one am super EXCITED for some of them! Or…ya know…most, if not all, of them!!  And I’m really excited to once again have the chance to be an Ambassador for the line. There’s fun things coming up this year … a new website, the 13er in June and all the new clothes coming out!!

Keep checking the website to find your new favorite!! And when you do,  take 20% off of your purchase with my new code…ORF20 — memorize it! And use it often!!

The One with the Resolutions

1 Jan

happy new year 2016

First off I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year filled will all the good things!! It’s always nice to have a clean slate. Hopefully this year I can make up for any shortcomings in 2015.

new beginning

And so with that….On to the resolutions!

Running Resolutions: 2015 got off to a good start when I was running Dopey, then the Houston half and then the Paris Marathon. And then, I just quit running. Yeah, I still signed up for races, and I showed up but…that was about it.

In 2016 I, along with a group of friends, have pledged to run 1000 miles. Someone else did the math and it’s a bit more than 20 a week. I think 🙂  My current running plans are pretty unplanned at the moment. I will be running the Houston Half marathon again in a couple of weeks and I am registered for the runDisney Dark Side Challenge in April. I have plans to go for redemption at the Marine Corps Historic Half and will likely repeat my October trifecta – the Hartford Half, the Hershey Half and the Marine Corps Marathon (got my “club” number so get to bypass the lottery!!)

There are some events on my “want to do” list — Hershey’s 10K, the Skirt Sports 13er (which will combine and ambassador retreat with my return to Boulder after too many years!!) Run With the Amish, Hogsback Half, Shipyard Old Port Half…and I’m sure a few more will rear their heads in the next few months! And there will also be multiple 5K’s and possibly more 10K’s.

So I resolve to actually be more diligent in training – and will work my hardest to make it to 1000 miles! And I resolve to actually show up for races I register for — so in full disclosure I will say that I was registered for a 10K this morning that I did *not* go to, but I *DID* run a bit more than 10K at home!!

Health Resolutions:  The addition of an insulin pump to my arsenal this year has made it much easier to track my sugar numbers so I’ll continue on that path! I will also head back to Bikram on a MUCH more consistent basis. I plan to also throw a Whole30 or two on the pile this year — or at least eat more cleanly more often.

Blogging Resolutions: Yep. More consistency! More posting! More pictures! More fun! I hope to have a lot to share this year in all areas of my life.

Random Resolutions: More quality time with the Phred – working away from home takes away a lot of the time we used to spend together and he’s a good dog and deserves more attention!! And, I resolve to make my bed every morning.I will also work as hard as I can to be less road rage-y and angry when I’m driving! And finally, I will take time every day to express my gratitude – there is so much in my life that makes me thankful and I need to acknowledge that much more often!

Do you make resolutions? Do you keep ’em?!! What is the easiest resolution that you’ve made and kept?

‘Tis the Season!!

7 Oct

No…not THAT season (but that one’s coming too!!) – it’s Fall Marathon season. This is the time of year that all runners look forward to and train for and worry about!

0915_running_season_facebook

I guess my “season” started with the Disneyland Half Marathon back on Labor Day weekend — for the first time I did the entire 13.1 with a friend, and even though we didn’t chat much at all I could really feel a difference.

Then, I headed down to Florida to run the first Volition Half marathon in Orlando.

volition

Of course I had to spend some time with my fabulous friends Angela and Nate. And Na’Cho. And since I wasn’t staying on Walt Diseny World property, our good phriend Phred came along –

The weekend after we got home from Florida I joined some of my running group in tackling the first ever East Coast Beat the Blerch “race” – the biggest draw for me was — Cake. On the course. At the aid stations. Real Cake.

cake

Also cake at the finish line…LOTS of cake!!

Apart from the cake, and the friends, this wasn’t an awesome success for me – advertised as having “some ‘legit’ trails” it actually had *some* legit ROAD – 96% of the course was trail running. Technical, uphill, some downhill, roots, rocks and fallen trees technical. Needless to say, there was not a ton of running but I hung out with a couple of friends for the entire 13.1 (or, if you want to take my Map My Run’s word for it, 33.88) miles 🙂

But now, the season really starts to come alive!

And with that, the perpetual question — WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR?!?!?

Later this week I will share all of my planned running outfits, and you can bet there’s gonna be a ton of Skirt Sports! You can have a chance to win some Skirt Gear of your own in the next couple of months – all of my fellow ambassadors are holding contests to give away their favorite item – my giveaway comes up in November. But checkout my Facebook page, or Twitter, for links to current opportunities to win.

Also – if you’re on Pinterest (and I know you are!) – We’re having another contest and chance to show your #REALwomenmove spirit! To get involved just ….
