Happy Haunted Trail 5K (And We Can’t Forget the Expo!)

18 Oct

After spending Thursday night Trick-or-Treating my way through the Magic Kingdom I decided to take it easy on Friday…

Yeah, right! I was in Walt Disney World – there’s no “taking it easy” in WDW!!! I knew I would have to hit the expo as soon as possible (mainly to get it out of the way so I could park around!) so got up a little later than planned, made my instant oatmeal and coffee in the room and set out to wait for the bus.

But then I decided to go to one of the parks and THEN catch a bus. EPCOT was calling my name!! And it would be easy to monorail over to the Poly and catch a bus to the expo! I jumped on a couple of rides (Spaceship Earth anyone?!) and then figured it was a good enough time to head over to the expo.

After my experience at the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend expo I was braced for just about anything!! To my delight and surprise things were “normal” for an expo. But still, I wanted to get my wine glass (if they had them. They didn’t) and medallions for my nephews’ Vinylmation dolls. And maybe pins for the boys too.

I grabbed my goodies and headed to the, relatively, short line and chatted with the people around me – as one tends to do in line at runDisney expos!

After picking up my bibs and shirts for the runs the next day it was back to my room to drop off my loot – then back out to EPCOT for some International Food and Wine action!

After a bit more wandering it was time for dinner and getting ready for an early day on Saturday! Ps – the muffaletta at Port Orleans is a pretty good representation – just olive-y enough!!

Got my clothes together and took a shower and hit the hay early early. Saturday would be an early start but not as early as usual for Disney events! Since this was a trail run, it wouldn’t start until after sunrise!!

My first thought when I woke up was “I don’t want to do this again tomorrow” followed immediately by “Oh yeah, I don’t have to. The second race is tonight!” I oatmealed again, got dressed and headed for the bus – thank you Fireside Girl costume for making my life easy! I had an awful lot of people calling me a Girl Scout…

The Happy Haunted Trail 5K takes place on the grounds of ESPN Wide World of Sports – starting out on the big fields.

005

Corrals were set up – very official looking this time! I didn’t notice people checking bibs but I have heard that they were there! Usually the waiting is the tough part but there was so much to look at, so many great costumes, that the time really went by fast. And then, there are the pictures!

008

There was a guest appearance by the Headless Horseman – with warnings to all to stay on the paths and not get off course. Or. Else.

The weather was uncomfortable but it definitely was warm. And the sun wasn’t up yet!

012

The course is mostly trail/grass running with a half loop around the track – running on the track brought back memories of the LAST time I was on that track at about mile 18 of the Marathon in January!

021

Running on the cushion-y track makes me feel like a REAL runner!!

There were characters out on the course – I just missed seeing Captain Hook, but got a shot with one of his men…

017

As the miles went past, things definitely heated up and I was happy to get to the finish and some cool water! And the cute medal!

003

Unless you’re a regular trail runner you probably had some difficulty with the trail portions of the course. All in all though, it was a super nice morning!!

And, the plan for post-race was definitely to take things easy — I had another 10 miles to go that night!!

Wise Words from The Possum

12 Jul

Yep! It’s Friday!! This turned into a long work day for me – answered my first emails at 4:59 am – the thought being I could get to 6 am Bikram again. Coffee took precedence though so 4:30 Bikram it is!!

Got some good work done. Had a talk with my recruiter about my dissatisfaction with my rate. Went to the dentist to get a “small filling” and somehow my whole face feels like it was drilled into!! Will take some Acetaminophen?  And I’d still love to treat myself to a mani and a pedi before a short getaway Sunday evening…

Tomorrow I am going to NYC to see the amazing Ms.Victoria – of Brows By Victoria. Tomorrow I’m actually getting my brows done as well as some uh…bikini area maintenance. This will be my first time having Victoria do my brows and I’m REALLY Excited! And, based on my experience with her lower area work I expect to be like 150% satisfied! She’s got some kind of magic touch and I’ll take a train to NYC every 5 weeks just for this!

Naturally, I may stop off at Trader Joe’s wine store too – I have some cash saved up so I can get a bottle or 2.

2 buck chuck

Not so much 2 buck chuck anymore — we’re up to 3 buck chuck in Manhattan…

Once I get home there will be much more beauty work to get ready for Sunday – you don’t get all THIS in no time!!

Sometimes you don’t even get “all this”! And I’ve got a few miles to get in too – it’s all part of the beauty work!!

Hope you have some great weekend plans – and if you’re ever in Manhattan and want some freshening up (Victoria also dyes lashes and brows which I may save up for! ) definitely look her up!

Have a super fabulous weekend and Hopefully I’ll have some great stories when I get back!

Let’s Eat All The Things!!!

11 Jun

Or, how my second week of Whole30 is going…

Finally back from vacation, Finally ready to buckle down and kick this thing into gear! So, I’ve got my fruits, I’ve got my veggies, I’ve got protein out the as…well, you see where I’m going with this. I’ve thrown out the milk even and bought coconut milk for my coffee!

This should be a piece of cake. Mmmmm….cake…

First day back things went pretty well…I slipped and put half and half in my first cup of coffee…but other than that, I was about 85% on track. I might have eaten some cheese.

Friday was tough cause it was National Donut Day. And, if you need to know anything about me, you need to know that I have a serious…SERIOUS, sweet tooth (yeah, it doesn’t make being diabetic very easy!) and I have a definite affinity for the little round fried goodies. And, as I may or may not have mentioned, the lobby of my office building contains a Dunkin Donuts! But, as luck would have it, I woke up feeling kind of punky on Friday and not even a donut could tempt me to eat. So…I was pretty much on track only cause I was drinking water and eating an apple all morning!

Friday night I might have had some cheese and wine…

wine glass half full

Saturday and Sunday were easy days to stay on track since I have no temptations in the house!

Back at work – packing a lunch was the best plan since we have no vending machines in the office ( that I know of…)

But today? Today I want to EAT EVERTHING IN SIGHT! With a definite preference for things that might be termed “crap”…luckily, none available!

  Candy-Bars

So, even on days that I’ve slipped up, overall I’m definitely making some better choices and thinking twice before putting something in my mouth!

It can only get easier, right?!!
