Doctor Doctor

14 Jun

Today has been so very exciting so far! Well…exciting might not be the right word….

I had my first chance at my new job to work from home and almost had a panic attack when I had problems connecting to the VPN — still managed to get in by 6 and get crackin’!

Then, I had a dentist appointment. Since I’m getting older and getting diabetic, I go every 4 months instead of every 6. And generally I have pretty good teeth if I do say so myself. Though, I *have* noticed some bleeding when I floss, which is never a good sign. Of course when the hygienist started poking around with sharp tools it looked like open heart surgery in my mouth — the blood was flowing. Apparently I have a lot of “deep pockets” of “bacteria” around some crowns and they are crawling to adjacent teeth and areas of my mouth (yes, I too was picturing a mouth full of bugs thankyouverymuch.) So we did some “irrigating” and she shot some antibiotics in the worst spots (three worst spots…THREE!!). Other than that, however, “You really do have good dental hygiene habits”. Yeah. Thanks. I do floss regularly and I use a Sonic Care brush — which I highly recommend!

After an HOUR in the dentist chair, I headed over to my doctor. That whole diabetic thing means I should go see him every 3 months to keep up on my A1c readings. I am wishing I had skipped today! Turns out that my A1c is at the level it was when I was first diagnosed 5.5 years ago.

This means that I am back at square one. Though, about 30 pounds lighter than when I was first diagnosed. And much more active than I was then. AND much more careful about what I put in my mouth at mealtime! So it shouldn’t be too difficult to get things back in control.

  • I will probably continue some form of Whole30 or Paleo eating for longer than 30 days.
  • I will have to get back in the habit of more regular testing during the day so I can catch high numbers before they get too bad
  • I will have to be MUCH more consistent with running and yoga and all other activity – which I was planning on anyway given I have some big races in the fall!

I’ve done it before, and I know I can do it again!!!

Hope everyone is planning a happy fun weekend for the Dads! I have some races on tap so look for some race reviews coming up. AND…the much anticipated coconut water post!! What? You weren’t anticipating that? You are now though aren’t you!!

Quick Post to Catch up — the on to the REAL work!

31 May

So, it’s been a few days … and I’ve been kinda busy. AND there’s been a lot of runDisney news that I need to catch up on!!

A quick rundown:

Runner’s World Streaking?  I’m managing it, though I had to count my dog walks on one day.

runDisney has released course maps for the DL 10K and apparently, if my quick blog scan is right, there’s now a 10K for the Tinkerbell Half. And I will NOT get sucked into THAT let me tell you!

Wednesday was a travel day for me. I’m now in Houston, where I spent yesterday babysitting my dad at a Cath Lab while his doctor attempted to clear some calcification in the arteries in his legs. There will be more trips for him. Today I start on my “normal” Houston visit activities which are a lot of nothing!

Tomorrow is June 1 – start of a SweatPinkAmbassador Whole30 Challenge. Since I’m not in my own home and my own kitchen it is going to be tough but I will definitely be making an honest effort until I am back in control of my own shopping and food!!

Some sad news — my college roommate lost her dad this week, completely unexpectedly. So, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it many times again. If you love ’em, tell ’em!

I’ll be back later today with some Whole30 thinking – and some links to some great information!

Meanwhile, it’s Friday people!!! Do your Friday thang!!!

Exciting Stuff Coming Up!

23 May

So, I’m new to blogging and always looking for new ways to get out there and find more great fitness-y things to write about and I have a few things coming up that I’m going to share!

Not necessarily fitness related, but heading to TX next week for some family time which is always great! More on that later of course!

Talking to someone tomorrow about getting involved in an infomercial for Zumba — TWO new things!!! And infomercial AND Zumba! Hopefully will know more about that early next week.  Stay Tuned!

Another new exciting thing?! Trying out EnergyBits for the first time. Started taking them today and not rushing to judgement – but will definitely be reporting on my experiences – I’m thinking we’re in for some more good!

Hoping for some tasty-ness!!

And, today I got my first product to review so I hope I do a good job! Look for a Zola Coconut Water and Acai Juice review coming up!

The biggest event though, is my first attempt at a WHOLE30 -. One of my SweatPink Ambassador pals threw this out as something we can do in June. Basically I’m going to spend at least 30 days with no grains, no dairy, no soy, no sugar, no alcohol, and…well, basically nothing processed. From my research there is a metric shittonne of stuff I *can* eat but there might be some adapting on my part! Definitely putting together a biggie post on this — **N.B. This kicks off on the same day that I’m going to be at a big beach party with lots of burgers, dogs, beers and other illicit goodies…there’s humor in this somewhere!!

And training for the Dumbo Double Dare is gonna kick in in a couple of weeks so there’s gonna be a lot of Running and a lot of Bikram and a lot of SUMMER!!

Coming Up!!! Dumbo Double Dare!!!

Happy Memorial Day Eve Peeps!! Travel safe if you’re traveling, party safe wherever you are!!

Happy Mother’s Day

12 May

My dad took this picture of my mom back in the olden days! He was testing out a new camera

My mom loved flowers…so maybe that’s why I like to have flowers in my house so much… My lilac tree is blooming so I’m going to cut some and bring it in. Mom liked lilac.

I miss her so much every single day and always will.

Never miss a chance to tell the people you love that you love them. This is definitely something I’m still working on and find it much easier to do in writing than face to face 🙂

Happy Mother’s Day to all my friends who are Moms — even if your kids have four legs and fur. xoxo
