10-Day Be Vibrant Cleanse — The Wrap Up

5 Mar

A few weeks ago, a fellow Sweat Pink Ambassador sent out the request for people to try the Be Vibrant Cleanse – and I responded since I am ALWAYS looking for way to amp up my healthy eating.

The cleanse includes a detailed meal plan, with recipes as well as a private Facebook group. Every morning you will wake up to an email from Mary Jane in your inbox – a bright bit of motivation to start you day, with hints to get through the day, and do some advance prep! And, for this Spring, she’s running a 50% off deal for my readers!

Overall, this was really quite easy. Lots more food prep than I usually do. But probably a normal amount for someone who hasn’t slacked off on actually making meals!!  And tasty food. Basically you follow a vegan / gluten free meal plan for the 10 days and as much as I love my cow milk I did get through with very minimal milk craving! I can manage with no bread products for a couple of weeks so that wasn’t a stretch!

Breakfast was generally oatmeal, quinoa, berries or a smoothie — which aside from the quinoa, I tend to do anyway. The difference here was cooking my oatmeal in Almond milk instead of water as usual. Loved getting some new variety in my smoothie repertoire – especially with my new NutriBullet to lend a hand!!

Each day included 2 optional snacks – and after the 3rd day or so, I wasn’t hungry between meals so I tended to skip those.

The meal plan had a lot of variety for lunch and dinner.  Though, since I only cook for one, and many of the recipes make at least 2 servings, I ate leftovers probably more than I should have. But I stayed with the spirit of the cleanse.

These are tricky to work with…but kind of tasty!

I think the only thing I ate that I hadn’t had before were the brown rice tortillas and the roasted beets – but I have been wanting to try roasting beets for some time and this was my push! I don’t think I ate anything that I couldn’t tolerate, and I ate quite a few things that I’ll definitely be making again!

Some of my favorites were the Stuffed Peppers

051

Spicy, with Quinoa and Black Beans

And the Quinoa Sweet Potato Chili

056

Serious Noms!! And even this Texas girl didn’t miss the meat!!

And this White Bean and Artichoke spread that, really, I can eat with a spoon!!

055

Great tasty spread to use on wraps or as a dip with veggies!!

So, given my complete lack of motivation since finishing up with The Dopey Challenge back in January, I’m pretty impressed with myself for getting through this.  I will confess to a coffee cheat a couple of times though – Couldn’t stand the withdrawal headache. Next time, and there WILL be a next time for sure!, I will prepare myself with some buffered Vit C powder!

If you need a jumpstart – or just want to reset things – definitely go to Mary Jane’s website – Live Love Fitness –  and check this out!!! I’m so happy that I did this – way easier than a #Whole30 for me and I am much more sustainable, for me, going forward!

And, don’t forget, let Mary Jane know I sent you and get 50% off!!

Thankful Thursday — on Friday!

thank-you-quote2

It’s no longer Thursday….but I’m still thankful!!

Went back to Bikram tonight after quite a long break – I really needed it, physically and mentally.

I’m thankful that my body still knew what to do, even if it couldn’t do it so well. Thankful for the teacher who made the class fun. Well, as fun as 90 minutes in 104 degrees can be! And I’m thankful that the studio is a short walk from the office and I was able to purchase a package that will give me access to the classes for my last 2 weeks at work for the price of one class!

**Note people – if you’re gonna try Bikram, even if you think you might only make it to one or two classes, look at the introductory packages! You’ll save a bit of coinage!! **

Hope you found something in your day yesterday to be thankful for!

runDisney’s Inaugural Dumbo Double Dare – Part 1, The 10K

13 Sep

We’re now at the Main Event!! Well, yeah…the Main Event!

The runDisney Inaugural Dumbo Double Dare

Bright and early Saturday morning, it was time to head out to the start of this fantastic event! There was no costume involved, just a Sparkle Athletic skirt and a white tank. Oh, and Mickey Mouse ears of course!

 001

The hike into the corrals was kind of a mess due to the fact that the Family 5K had the same starting line and had only started 15 minutes earlier and those folks were still clearing the corrals! So…”be in the corral by 5:45” turned into “just get in your corral NOW”!!! Good thing that I stopped for a bite to eat on my way to the start!

003

I will confess here that even though my bib said…F…I jumped into a corral with a bunch of …Es. I have never jumped corrals before. Trust me, it didn’t make me faster 🙂

Eventually the Start ‘gun’ went off and the corrals started slowing heading to the starting line.

015

The course started out on the streets of Anaheim before heading into Disney’s California Adventure – entering through CarsLand (my favorite!!) then headed through Paradise Pier and into Grizzly Peaks (home of one of my favorite rides – Grizzly River Rapids) out through Condor Flats, Buena Vista Street through Hollywoodland and going back out into the real world for a bit.

 020

We were now a bit more than halfway through. And it was HOT. Hot and humid. There had been a water stop around mile one, but nothing since – we had been told “the water fountains in the parks are available”…um…anyway! There was a water stop coming up though!!

Cutting back into the concourse between the parks we headed into the Magic Kingdom. Walt’s first park! As always it was very exciting to run up Main Street USA – huge crowds were waiting there too! A loop took us through Tomorrowland and back towards Mickey’s Toon Town. A detour backstage took us through Disneyland’s Custodial services area where there are always lots of people out to cheer us on – they hang signs welcoming us to their area!!

Back in through Toon Town towards Fantasyland and…THE CASTLE!! Now, I’ve run through the two Disney Castles a LOT this year..and not once have I managed to get a picture of it!! One Day…

Anyway, with less than a mile to go we head through Frontierland and then back out towards the Disneyland Hotel and the finish line! And, I don’t always keep exact track, but I think this might have been my best 10K time in a very long time!!

In spite of the heat I had a great run! I topped it off by heading DIRECTLY to Grizzly River Rapids for a few turns through to cool off!! Learned you don’t get as wet when there are fewer people in the boats! Met a little boy in line at Soarin’ too, who was getting ready to run the Kids’ races and he was very excited that he was going to get a medal “like [mine]”!!

Really, coming up next is the Disneyland Half Marathon Recap you’ve been waiting for!!

Down To The Wire!!!

28 Aug

Who would’ve thunk it? It’s the night before I’m flying out of town and I am running around like a mad woman packing and cleaning and other miscellaneous things!

Well, I could’ve predicted this for sure! Could not have predicted an extra THREE hours at work tonight – granted, it was my error that kept us late, but if it had been up to me, I’d maybe have been an HOUR over. But that’s done and over with and now it’s on to the real fun!!

Got my clothes packed. Got my Powerade Zero packed. My trail mix, my running clothes, my mouse ears…pretty much everything I need! Still need to get to my carry on items and my toiletries. And I’m fortunate that I’m not taking one of my usual 6 am flights – I’m not leaving til NINE – almost NINE THIRTY!!

And I can’t wait!!

I get entirely way too geeked about traveling. I LOVE traveling. I love everything about it. The planning, the waiting, the checking, and rechecking, the reservations. My seat on the plane, the hotel amenities, the local restaurants…All of it! TSA? Yeah, not my favorite part but…And then there’s the flying!!

I love flying. I love getting dressed up to get on the plane. Love it!! I am so really excited – first for getting to Disneyland, seeing people I haven’t seen in a long time, seeing some people for the first time!!

And I’m just as excited to walk up to the kiosk and drop off my bags and head to the plane!!

Race Review – X-Treme Scramble #3 “DISCO”

23 Aug

So, yeah…this song was in my head all week. Why? Well, I’ll tell ya why

Last night was the final HMF X-Treme Scramble and this month’s theme was “Disco”. The general idea of these Thursday evening, after-work weekend kick-off runs is that the course is never the same as last month and you never know what you’re getting into until you’re well into it

This one was a pretty straight-forward course – head north along the river, past the boathouse, through the woods and back. Easy peasy. No stairs, no hills, no bridges. A great course and some decent weather. We missed out on the expected storms/rain and there was a nice breeze.

I decided this time to stick with my intervals and NOT half-ass it like usual “Oh, this is uphill and I should be running but I’ll walk and just tack it on to my next run interval…” and so on 🙂 And, amazingly, knocked about 3 minutes off of my last 5K so, lesson learned.

What I wish I looked like doing my intervals up the hills…

What I felt like after running my intervals up hills…

Post race, talked to a PT that was on-site about a pain I’ve been having, he poked my butt a little and showed me how week my glute muscle is. Suggested squats and that sort of strengthening to help things out. Glad I took the 10 minutes to talk to him for sure.

squat

Grabbed my Harpoon UFO and my burrito from Moe’s – and headed up the stairs to find a seat and enjoy dinner!

As always, the Hartford Marathon Foundation did an excellent job with the series and everyone had a great time this summer! I’m pretty thrilled that I FINALLY managed to do ALL THREE events! Usually I miss out on at least one!

Up next – the Old Wethersfield 10K (At least, I think I registered for the 10K, it might just be a 5K!)

Have a super great weekend ya’ll – and get out and enjoy the sun!!
