So, I really am still processing the day but a quick preview of the full recap (hopefully coming tomorrow!)
The Marine Corps Marathon is, in my opinion, an emotional experience. Always.
This year there were a couple of additional parts that made it, really VERY emotional for me –
1. It was my mom’s birthday. The first time I ran this she was sitting on a bench in Crystal City with Phred, waiting for HOURS for me to come through. This year she was with me the entire 26.2 – and every now and then I really wanted her to be waiting for me at the finish. I think she would’ve been proud of her clumsy daughter
2. The “Wear Blue: Run To Remember” mile…Oh. My. Gosh. I heard about this last year and thought I was prepared. I was not. I don’t think you can prepare for it.
3. A PR. I’ve said many times that I’m slow. And I am. I’ll never be a 4 hour marathoner — I’m hoping to one day be a sub-6 hour marathoner. But a PR is a PR.
Like I said, a very emotional day for me. But also an awesome day. A really awesome day.
So come back tomorrow night for pictures and more of the fun details!!
Meanwhile…here’s me and my fancy hair somewhere along the way…
I love, love, love that race. I did it in 2010 and would totally do it again. Can’t wait to read more!
I can’t wait to hear! My brother got married in Crystal City and it is indeed a special place. I will have the kleenex ready tomorrow!
