Yep! That’s about 6.55 miles – so a bit more than a 10K. That was Saturday”s event. And I was so excited to see Kim and Meg again. And, I was going to meet a long-time Facebook friend from New Jersey, Sandra. Big Saturday for me!!
Kathy came over Friday and we started watching The Hunger Games (again!) but since we’re old we were not quite able to get through the whole thing! Besides, we had some runnin’ to do in the morning!!
I also met other runDisney running friends – Matt and his wife Jill!
This race is put on by the Hartford Track Club and Sonic Endurance – the same folks who brought us the amazing Hogsback Half – at the West Hartford Reservoir. Gorgeous two loop course. Thought I’d be able to keep up with Kim (don’t tell her coach, but she did some running this weekend – and hey! Check her out at her blog especially if you’re feeling the need for some inspiration!) but that didn’t happen. The wheezing from Niantic and from climbing the cathedral stairs came back. I think I need to see if I’ve got an old Albuterol inhaler around and if that will help!
Hilly course. But, like I said, gorgeous! And, I suck since I didn’t actually take any pictures (any you see here are stolen from Kim!!). I managed some negative splits though which made me happy. The second loop actually wasn’t as bad as the first – maybe this time knowing what would come made it ‘better’.
Post-race was fun! I got there when they were already doing the raffle and none of us won anything! But…there were cupcakes. And Nutella. And those small Easter Reeses’ cups! What more does a girl need!! (Kathy noticed I was shaking a little and my meter was in the car so I took precautions and ate some carbs post-race!)
And there was bling! Of course! And, I didn’t mention it, but long sleeved tech shirts too!
Saying goodbye is always hard, but I knew I’d see Kim and Meg the next day – hopefully it wouldn’t take so long to see Sandra again and, well, Kathy was in my car. Stopped off for lunch and got home and watched the end of The Hunger Games before Kath headed back to RI.
Coming up on Sunday — the Inaugural Middletown Half Marathon and Legends 4 Miler (actually, they did the 4-Miler last year and it was only the Inaugural year for the half!). I was on tap for the 4-Miler cause, well, I live here and looked at the course map and I think by now we all know how I feel about hills 😉
The rest of the day seemed very much like Sunday. Which it wasn’t. At. All.
Awww, how much fun to see so many people. I’m big on the social aspect of running. 🙂 And I love the idea of a quarter marathon – wonder if there are any around here!
I didn’t used to be so social about it! But after my super social Princess Half weekend this year that’s ALL CHANGED!!
I hear you on that! Disney has that influence over people. 😉
How fun to have all those friends at the same race! I love that they had cupcakes for you guys at the end!
This group ALWAYS has great post-race treats — the race director and her family and friends do all the baking and cooking! At the half later this year there is roast chicken and pasta and all kinds of other goodies!!
And I can’t believe how happy I am when I know I’m going to be meeting up with my friends at these events!!
