Run, run as fast as you can. You can’t outrun the gingerbread man. Or the oreos…or the Milky Way bars…
When I picked this name for my blog, my hope was to do more writing about how much we need both exercise AND diet to stay healthy. Eventually I’ll get there!
It seems like common sense right? Runners can go on about all the post-race beers and pizza. “Hey, I *earned* it!!”. But if those pizza and beers become a regular part of your running ritual, eventually it’s going to catch up with you. I know that personally, if I’m eating healthier, I just FEEL better and if I feel better I’m more likely to get up off my butt and MOVE! Good feeds good! Potato chips feed the couch.
An article in the Wall Street Journal is now telling us what we already, kinda, knew…
Why Runners Can’t Eat Whatever They Want
So, how do you “treat” yourself after a big running accomplishment whether it’s a long training run or a Marathon?
Big fat cheeseburger and fries! I really, really struggle with good nutrition. My weight is okay, but my nutrition is not and I feel like I would have so much more energy if I was more careful about what I eat!
I tend to “manage” my weight in pretty unhealthy ways…but I am getting better at making decisions when I’m in the store about what to bring in the house. Which is half the battle
After races, I tend to not be really hungry which I know is not a good thing! I’ll order a lot of food then take it home!
My go to is Always a cupcake. I ran equals I get a cupcake. Probably not the best strategy and I don’t do it all the time…lol
For big races, I like a NICE meal. After the Publix Half, I wanted a Publix Sub SOOOOOO bad LOL….not exactly gourmet but it was the best sandwich ever. I was STARVING all night after that race and also treated myself to some homemade popcorn…with butter…yeah I know.
