So, after spending several hours running in the heat and humidity, I was going to take a break from the running and parks part of my weekend and just relax with an old friend
Many years ago, in a land far far away…or. Maybe it was just Boulder Colorado…I joined a sorority (Go ADPi! First and Finest) and made lots of great friends. Thanks to the magic of the interwebs, I’ve been able to reconnect with a few special, close friends – and I’ve been even more fortunate to be able to get together with a couple of them in person!
Monday after the Disneyland Half Marathon I had plans to have breakfast with one of these special women– plans were to meet at Downtown Disney La Brea Bakery at 9:30 for our reunion!
When I saw Susie walking up I recognized her immediately! It’s amazing that my friends still look exactly like they did almost 30 years ago!!! (What??!! THIRTY YEARS??!!?? Not possible!!)
We started talking and between ordering breakfast (and a reunion celebrating Bloody Mary!), eating, remembering, the morning FLEW by! At one point I remember looking at my phone and seeing that it was nearly ONE O’Clock!! Almost 4 hours we’d been sitting there and there was still so much to talk about!!
Something I’ve learned over the last couple of years, catching up with my old friends, is that deep down what we loved about each other back when we met, what was important to us back then, is still what holds us together. And now I’m eagerly looking forward to the time when we are all together again!
I’ve also learned that there is NOTHING in the world like a hug from an old, dear friend.
Isn’t it great to catch up with an old friend? I love having races back home so I can see some of my high school and college friends and.
I have enjoyed reading your blog and have nominated you for a Shine On award. Here is the 411:

It was really great to see her — and now we’re planning a reunion of a bunch of us!!
When I run the Houston Half, it’s always great to hang out with my oldest friend in the entire world! We love telling people at the expo how much we (especially *I*) hated running during PE in grade school!!
